THE FIRST TOUR 1967-68

SWEET HOME ALABAMA

From Fort Rucker, Alabama they came. They were trained to put CH-47s to work. They did. Conquering Hong Cong Mountain was one of many tasks. Sleep, when they could get it, was short. Rest was a luxury. And Secretary of Defense McNamara said, "We don't have a shortage of pilots in Vietnam. We have an overage of aircraft."

A ROUND PEG IN A ROUND HOLE

A gentle touch on the cyclic and delicate thrust lever control, combined with adept crew chiefs and flight engineers, made for excellent team work. Up Hong Cong Mountain they went, giving a new meaning to the phrase, "...stringing wire."

HONG CONG SURRENDERS

Pegasus Warriors, of the 228th Aviation Battalion, crest the summit with a final pole. Monsoon rains fought their efforts. Nevertheless, determination and skill now provided a secure "Lima-Lima."

NIGHT MUSIC

At night "Charlie" visited. His welcome was not pleasant. His stay was short. Amidst the war sounds, the Circle C lizard bellowed our sentiments. It was a lovely tune.

WHAT! ME WORRY?

Warrant Officer Campbell (Left) and I relax for we know the brave 1st Air Cav troopers keep us safe through the night.

"ABOVE THE BEST"
